The high performance arm of sportscotland, the sportscotland Institute of Sport (SIS) works to prepare Scotland's best athletes to perform on the world stage and provide high performance expertise to sport and athletes in Scotland.
We developed their first website in 2001 in our own content management system CC7 and secure IS027001 certified hosting infrastructure. The new site needed to demonstrate their high performance expertise, explain who they are and what they do while making people feel proud to be part of it.
As part of our ongoing development with the institute we conducted an expert usability review in early 2010 to determine how to improve the delivery of their key content to their target audience.
We reviewed the Information Architecture, site content and design, providing a full statistical analysis using results generated by Google Analytics. We recommended a new Information Architecture and page structure to improve the probability of user finding information and reaching their goals.
We also restructured and redesigned the homepage to make it work harder for the institute by displaying content which takes users to key information quickly and easily.
We redeveloped their email newsletter campaign and added a live Twitter feed to the site homepage to further highlight their key messages and enhance their online presence.
Using the results of our analysis, we developed a content delivery plan focusing on the needs of specific audiences.
The result was a clean, well structured design and architecture focusing on both business and user needs, highlighting the key messages and objectives.
Google Analytics statistical results show that the bounce rate has decreased from the homepage and the content paths show that users are navigating through the site, reaching their goal more efficiently.
